Welcome. My name is Raewyn Stewart and I am a rag quilt designer from Invercargill, New Zealand. I didn’t grow up with rag quilts because they are not very common here, and until recently I had never seen one in real life unless I had made it myself.
In 2021, after a lot of trial and error, I developed a new approach to rag quilt construction. It created a soft puffy seam that gives the illusion of one seam flowing over another at the intersections. This became known as the Caterpillar seam. Together with my signature inlay method, it has helped spark a fresh wave of interest in the rag quilting craft.
In 2023 I began adding some of my designs to Etsy under Candlewick and Roses, and you can also find the designs I created with my daughter in her Etsy store Rag Quilt Tutorials.
Creating brings me so much joy and it has been wonderful watching others use these techniques to make their own masterpieces. You can find me on Facebook and Pinterest and from time to time on Instagram. This blog is my first and only one and I am so glad you are here. R x
