It’s a lazy Sunday morning here in the Deep South of NZ and I’m contemplating the day over a cup of coffee. I’m wondering if a drive out to the Art Gallery in Otautau might be on the cards. It’s a nice drive and we found the relics of an old building we’d like to explore too.

I was recently drawn to a post on a quilting group asking how to achieve fluffy seams. I won’t identify the post but I will say, because I know a thing or two about puffy seams, that it is absolute MADNESS to use brushes and knives much less wire brushes on seams!

Brushing fluffs the seams initially but they become thinner over time as more is removed than would ever have been lost in normal wear and tear.

If you are following me for tips PLEASE put down the knives and nail, horse and wire brushes!

100% cotton fabrics, 3 layers (flannel middle), 1/2 inch seams and 1/8 snips with a long cold wash and warm tumble dry will give you fluffy seams that will last.

If you would like to know more about my quilt construction method and the caterpillar illusion seams come and join me. R x
