Snipping rounded corners

Rounded corners give a rag quilt a soft, pretty finish, but they do need a bit more care.

Fabric on a curve is cut on the bias, so it behaves very differently from a straight edge. If you snip too close together on the bias, the ragging can break away completely, leaving corners that look sparse and chewed out.

Along straight edges, I space my snips about ⅛ inch apart. When I reach a curve, I widen that spacing to around ¼ inch. Keep the snips straight and parallel, never angled like wedges, and always stop at least ⅛ inch before the stitching line.

The corner shown uses a 3 layer strip to boost the edge ragging to create a plush finish and also to help disguise any ragging loss.
